We reconvened at Nerd HQ with the last stragglers showing up before 6:00 and a delicious taco/fajita combination being served up courtesy of Ned and Felkin. After feasting, it wasn’t long before the table was cleared of bottles, papers, and plates. We replaced such litter with our big roll out map. Miniatures were restored to their former positions and we returned to our scene. Lilia had the door to the room containing the Shothragot Cyst cracked where we left off, she slammed it closed as the cyst burst to life.
In the midst of the ensuing debate about what should be done, Felkin heard distant sounds of battle from within the diseased halls of Shothragot. Led by Urien and Nobo, the group took off running to determine the source. A band of Githyanki warriors were engaged in a desperate struggle with a trio of beholders! Not being known for eating popcorn on the sidelines, our group piled into the battle dealing death on all sides. After some rough handed discussion, Urien shared a draught of jumping with a Gith warrior and leapt to the fight on a high ledge – though it took a few tries to get the jump right. Felkin lit in with arrows against said Beholder’s on high. Nobo skewered one of the smaller beholders with his beholder-poon and began hauling it down, down to its death, while Ned cast fire from afar.
Lilia stepped between shadows to appear on the high ledge – just in time to see Urien disappear down the throat of a giant armored and corrupted beholder. A long moment where Lilia realized she was along with the giant and then the beast brought to bear its eye rays. She barely survived a series of withering attacks. Meanwhile, Urien tried to kill the thing from inside, but it rejected him in a pile of excrement and half digested Githyanki.
The skewered beholder finally collapsed under the destructive power of our heroes. Nobo, Ned and Felkin started to climb, Arcturas ascended with Ned’s help. All were spurred on by Silverwind’s driving encouragement. Urien and Lilia endured another round of withering ray attacks from the eye stalks of the great beholder. Finally, relief came – Arcturas was the next to disappear down the throat of the thing. Death was close at hand for Lilia, Urien, Nobo, and Arcturas. Finally, Ned reached the summit and disintegrated the horror in a single stroke. All was quiet.
Our group met up with Geier again. Geier relayed his tale – he was departing the Shothragot in search of knowledge when a flying ship appeared bearing the Gith warriors. To the best of his knowledge, the ship remains outside. And, while outside, Geier saw that the Shothragot was passing over the walls, now fallen, of some great city below. Na’Batum.
Geier also relayed that he was growing uncertain about the gems – the eyes of Shothragot. Destroying them may weaken the sigil in the sky above, that will likely weaken Shothragot – but also may allow it to fully enter this world. There must be another way to confront the child of Zaghlool and destroy it. The group discussed the presence of Chechelon in the distant hall and Geier was horrified. The Shothragot is her spawn. Spawned from the seed of Zaghlool, Shothragot is the product of a dark tryst from long ago, from long before Zaghlool found his later love – the one killed by Joronen, the one who’s eye Ned bears.
The group explored and found the Island of Eyes, but decided to look elsewhere before confronting the fiery guardian that slew Geier’s kin. A plan was hatched for Nobo to bait the Cyst and lead it far from the group. Positions were taken and Nobo opened the door and took off running. The Cyst thing followed – deadly fast and flying! Who knew! But it sensed our group and lit into our band of heroes, tentacles flailing and washing all with its aura of despair. A bitter battle followed – all survived (except one of Geier’s flying squirrels that was sacrificed to save Urien). Arcturas was also near death once – but it was not yet his fate to die.
And that is where we ended. The Cyst is dead. Where is the plate-clad priest of darkness? How can our group stop the Shothragot before it destroys Na’Batum?
